The world is facing formidable challenges in meeting the rising demands of potable water and consumer products. The health and welfare of people are closely connected to the availability of adequate, safe and affordable water supplies. Also cost-effective recovery methods of chemicals and resources from waste and wastewater play an increasing role in sustaining human civilisation on Earth.
