H ''WWF '' is a Registered Trademark Editor's note: As a response to the reality of the impacts of climate change both on ecosystems and local people in the broader Himalayan region, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and two technical partners, UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education and San Diego State University (SDSU), undertook scientific studies focusing on high-altitude wetlands. Around 200 papers were consulted by experts to write the review upon which the present article is based. A detailed report of the review is currently being produced; this article summarizes the key findings and recommendations.
